About Robert Heyen d/b/a dcthreepainter
Enthusiastic Beginnings
I have been developing add-ons, mostly scenery and repaints, for the X-Plane flight simulator by Laminar Research since 2007.
Initially I made them for myself and later for others by sharing them at community websites such as x-plane.org and aerosoft.com.
Interest Grows
Encouraged by the comments of other enthusiasts, I created packages containing multiple liveries based on a common theme (a Fleet of Fancy) or the history of a single airframe (a Legacy of Liveries). These were primarily sold via the X-Plane.org Store. As there are many variants of the DC-3 --such as the DST, C-47 Skytrain, British-implemented Dakota, C-53 Skytrooper, C-117, Navy R4D, the Russian-built Lisunov PS-84/Li-2 and Japanese-built Showa L2D3, the total number produced was well over 16,000 and some have lasted almost 90 years, so there are plenty of paint schemes to draw inspiration from!
Ready for More
This store presents attempts to reach a broader audience than the flight simulator community, by applying my livery artwork upon a stand-alone 3D model. Being able to modify the model allows me to make alterations that better reflect the targeted airframe ...since it seems that once they left the Douglas factories, no two airplanes were alike! The resultant renderings facilitate their placement upon a variety of merchandise for us to share the love for this famous plane.
Never Enough
If you do not find anything worth the exchange of your hard-earned money, send me a suggestion! While I do have a large (450+) backlog of paint schemes to render, your request might serve as a desirable diversion during the long, hot Summer ahead.
Thanks for Visiting!
